There are many modes of travel, and each has its own particular
advantages and drawbacks. Be sure to call ahead and inquire
with the carrier before you commit to travel with your dog.

• Not all bus lines allow you to travel with your pet, so phone
  ahead for information.
• Amtrak does not permit pets to travel in passenger cars but they
may travel in cages or crates as checked luggage. (Be sure it is strong,
large enough for your dog to stand up and turn around, has a place for
food and water, is well ventilated, has an absorbent-covered leak-proof
bottom, and closes securely. Label it with “LIVE ANIMAL” and both local
  and travel contact information.)
• Some cruise ships do welcome pets. Check with the cruise line or ask
  your travel agent.
